Wood has dream debut for Burnley at Wembley

Former Cambridge player Chris Wood has scored at Wembley Stadium in a dream debut for English Premiership club Burnley.

The 25-year-old All White was brought on as a second half substitute for Burnley who trailed home side Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.

But as the game moved into the second minute of added time, Wood scored a dramatic equaliser.

Wood now leaves England to return to New Zealand in time to lead the All Whites attack against Solomon Islands in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier at Albany’s QBE Stadium on Friday evening.

Wood recently transferred from Leeds United to Burnley in a NZ$26 million transfer which has reportedly boosted his wages to NZ$5 million a year on a four-year deal.

Wood was a junior player at Cambridge FC in 2001-02 and made his senior football debut for the club as a 14-year-old.

He first landed a professional contract as a 17-year-old with West Bromwich Albion.
