Double header win against Taupo

Cambridge took maximum competition points from a vital double header against Taupo to improve the club’s positions in regional leagues.

In the Loaded WaiBOP Premiership, Cambridge beat second-placed Taupo 3-1 to move into fourth spot on the table.

The teams were tied 1-1 at half-time in their clash at John Kerkhof Park but a strong second half performance ensured victory for Cambridge.

Goalscorers were Tom Woutersen, Josh Clarkin and skipper Patrick Woodlock.

In the early game, unbeaten Cambridge remained top of the WaiBOP Championship with a comfortable 5-2 win, after the teams were level 2-2 at the break.

Scorers for Cambridge were Mason Woodall (16 mins), James Cakebread (22 and 90 mins), Callum MacLeod (65 mins) and Levi Clark (67 mins).

Cambridge lead the competition by four points and have a game in hand over the nearest rivals.

Cambridge lost their Waikato A match 4-2 at West Hamilton United despite leading 2-1 at half-time.

In the Waikato B division, Cambridge remain in second place after a 3-2 win against Waihi at John Kerkhof Park.

Scorers for Cambridge were Ryan Ashby (2) and Neil Nelson.

The D1 team lost 3-2 at Te Aroha Cobras after trailing 1-0 at the interval. Cambridge scorers were Tony Dikmans and David O’Donnell.

The D2 side lost 4-1 at West Hamilton United.

In the WaiBOP Federation U-12 boys league, Cambridge drew 1-1 at Rotorua United.

Lucius Bate put Cambridge ahead with a first half goal but the home side levelled in the second half, forcing the teams to share the points.

The U-14 boys lost 8-1 to Claudelands Rovers at John Kerkhof Park in the WaiBOP Federation Youth League.
