Cambridge are mounting a strong challenge in the WaiBOP Championship after a 2-1 win at Tokoroa.

The win keep’s the Adrian Clark-coached team in second place on the table, only three points behind leaders Otumoetai but with two games in hand.

Cambridge and fourth-placed Waikato Unicol are the only unbeaten sides in the competition.

Scorers Cambridge at Tokoroa were Mason Woodall (39 mins) and Deihen Hindley (41 mins).

Cambridge’s women’s first team claimed top spot in the Waikato League with a 6-2 win at Tokoroa who were the only other unbeaten team in the competition.

Cambridge led 2-1 at half-time at Strathmore Park but then pushed on with four more goals.

Scorers were Bethanee Witt, Kura Falleni, Andie Rogers (2) and Astrid Howarth (2).

The women play in the first round of the Waikato Cup, at home to Ngaruawahia United, next Sunday at 11am.

Cambridge men’s A lost 5-0 at home to Ngaruawahia United, breaking a two-match winning spell.

The Cambridge B team moved into second spot on the Waikato B division table with a comfortable 8-1 win against Putararu Rangers at John Kerkhof Park.

Peter Buesnel led the rampage with four goals, taking his tally to 14 for the season, while Grant McIlmurray grabbed a brace.

In Waikato Division D, the D1s beat Claudelands Rovers 5-4 while the D2 game at Waikato Unicol was postponed due to poor ground conditions.

The Cambridge U-12s lost their first game of the season in the WaiBOP Federation League, going down 3-1 at Papamoa. Cambridge’s goal came from Connor Cloete.
